In my experience, and in streams that I saw when the game first came out, if you are in a game by yourself and someone suddenly joins, zombies WILL magically appear
yeah I know, it happened to me all the time and this is ruining the coop. Mainly that happens because of the achievements which give insane amount of exp. There really should be an option to freeze or disable achievements when playing a coop game with friends. That would solve the problem.

Fight Through the Horde and Kill them All. After defeating the first group of infected, you will now have to run through the gauntlet. The gauntlet is fairly easy, and you can literally just run through the gauntlet without having to deal with any zombies. When you reach the other side of the bridge, you will then have to kill all of the infected.
The game is designed to be played with others, and the co-op experience would undoubtedly enhance the fun factor. I completed the game in around 8 hours, which felt like a reasonable length for a game of this genre. I do believe there will be a story DLC coming up. Overall, Dead Island 2 is a solid addition to the zombie game genre.
