I am skeptical of repair costs given before they even look at the camera themselves. My gut feeling is that the price was a "guesstimate". Maybe they have an old T5i laying around that they can cannibalize for parts which will keep the cost down.

If and when the shutter fails, it would probably cost about $200 to $300 to replace, but thatโs a large part of the value of the camera body and you may want to get a new camera at that point.
I seriously doubt Canon would refuse to repair a shutter that has gone beyond its life expectancy on 150,000 actuations. My 1D has done over 380,000 actuations (confirmed by canon while having sensor cleaned) and it works fine. anon would maybe not repair the shutter, but replace it for a price.

A shutter rated for 300,000 actuations (i.e. the ones used in a Canon EOS-1Ds MkIII series body) is not only manufactured to a higher spec, but tested by continually activating a sample until the shutter fails. At worst, you may continually activate a shutter for a couple hours at a time, after which the camera is stored until its next use.
