Jan 8, 2019. Good morning. At a crossroads on lens choice specifically between the Canon 24-105 f/4 L (Mark I) and the Canon 24-105 f/3.5-5.6 STM. What I'm most interested to learn are the differences between the image stabilization and low light handling of the two lenses. Primarily the lens would be used for low light event photography.
To be extremely honest, the Canon 24-105 / 4 L is weakly "pulling" the 17.9 MP matrix Canon 550D at F / 4 (in terms of a full frame, this will be 46 MP). At closed apertures, this is a very good lens. At the same time, the Canon 24-105 / 4 L is practically devoid of what photographers call “drawing”.
The Canon lens has significantly fewer lens elements (16/11 vs. 21/15) and shows fewer flare effects. The slightly narrower Sony lens uses 72mm filters vs. 77mm.
